Shhh

That’s the sound of milk aerating and steaming at an espresso machine. Otherwise known as the soundtrack to my day.

It’s also the sound of the vegetable-mister rain falling today (if you listen very closely) and the wind whipping the last of the autumn leaves still clinging to the trees. The low-lying clouds are silently sailing through the trees and around the hills, racing to the mountains.

It’s also the sound I heard while taking care of business at my pre-employment drug test this evening. (That’s right, folks – I’m about to be truly gainfully employed!)

It’s the sound of clean warmth and relaxation after a day on my feet and coming home to a thermostat reading 59 degrees.

It’s the sound I’ll be making tonight as I sleep the relieved sleep of someone who, for the first time in her adult life, doesn’t have to worry about making ends meet. The ends will meet soon, and I’m hopeful that they’ll be lifelong friends.
